Auto-updates
Golden Retriever updates itself from our own server. You don’t need to re-download anything from the website — new versions arrive in the app.
The beta channel
Section titled “The beta channel”During the beta, the app follows the gr2-beta update channel. Beta releases arrive as they ship; when the beta cycle ends and plain 1.0 ships, updates continue through the same in-app mechanism.
How updates arrive
Section titled “How updates arrive”The app checks for updates automatically. When a new version is available, it prompts you — you can install right away or later. Release notes for each version are published under Release Notes.
Updates are verified before they install
Section titled “Updates are verified before they install”Every update is cryptographically verified before it installs: the downloaded update carries an EdDSA signature, and the app checks that signature against our public key before touching anything. If the signature doesn’t match — because the download was corrupted or tampered with — the app refuses to install it. It will not install anything that isn’t signed by us.
Checking manually
Section titled “Checking manually”Choose Check for Updates… from the app’s menu bar. If you’re already on the latest version, it tells you so; otherwise it offers the update.
If an update won’t install
Section titled “If an update won’t install”- Check your internet connection — the app needs to reach our update server.
- Try Check for Updates… again; transient network errors resolve on retry.
- Still stuck? File a bug and mention the version you’re on.
